The waters off Malindi offer
an unique variety of Sportfish!
|
Sailfish

Malindi is world renowned for Sailfish which
is the smallest yet most acrobatic of the Kenyan Billfish
family. Sailfish are great fun on light tackle (20lb and
under), with their difficult takes and searing runs. They
are found throughout the season, but the best period seems
to be November to February.

|
Marlin

Three of the Marlin family occur on our coast, Black, Blue
and Striped. Black Marlin can be found throughout the season,
but August seems to be the best month. They roam shallow
and deep water and have been caught up to 850lbs. The Blue
and Striped Marlin inhabit deep blue water. They appear
for a short time in August and September, but the most fruitful
time is from January to March. Kingfisher has caught the
biggest Blue Marlin on the Kenyan coast, a grander of 1250lbs.

Broadbill
Swordfish
The gladiators of the sea are caught at night
throughout the season, the best time is over the new moon.
Kingfisher's best night (and Kenya's) saw 12 broadbill caught
on Neptune. The biggest broadbill was caught on Eclare in
March 2000, which weighed in at 362 Lbs. Pound for pound
the Broadbill is probably the hardest fighting fish in the
sea. Kingfisher run two night trips, the long-day-night
day and the shorter night only.(check *Special
Trips* in the left menu)

Sharks

The Indian Ocean is also home to the largest of the shark
family, namely Tiger, Bull, Hammerhead, Silver Tip, Black
Tip, Mako, and many others. Kingfisher broke the All Tackle
world record for the Bull shark twice in the 2000/2001 season
and 2 line class world records in the 2001/2002 season.
Malindi also holds the world record for Silver Tip, Spinner
and Black Tip Sharks.
